Hondros Taverna
Hondros taverna, situated in Kato Paphos just before the harbour, holds a significant place in history. It was established by the esteemed Kokos in 1953, a larger-than-life fisherman who owned a fishing boat and served his clientele with the freshest catch every day. Kokos' substantial size led to the name Hondros, meaning "fat man" in Greek.
As the first taverna to grace the streets of Kato Paphos, it probably holds today the title of being the oldest running taverna in Cyprus. In 1980, the renowned Paphian artist Andys Hadjiadamos returned from South Africa and took ownership of Hondros, maintaining both its name and the traditions instilled by Kokos over the years. Throughout its history, Hondros has been a beloved destination for those seeking to experience the rich heritage of local cuisine.
After Andys' passing in 1990, his wife Jennifer assumed responsibility for the taverna, managing it for the next two decades before passing it on to their four children. Under the leadership of their eldest son, George, Hondros underwent necessary restorations, transforming into a modern and thriving establishment that continues to delight patrons to this day.
